Be Careful What You Wish For!!!

My first ever training camp, and a real life coach......so exciting for me!!!!!!!!! In feel like I am 12 and am enrolled in the coolest thing around. Paying someone to actually train just me, to fire up this old bod and see what she can do, this is a huge deal in my life. I have been doing triathlon for about 7 years in some capacity. I was sitting on my couch, slightly overweight, totally out of shape with two young kids running amok, when i saw the world triathlon championships on tv. hmmmmm, that looks like something I should do, I said to myself. I liked to swim for fun as a kid, I had ridden a mountain bike once in awhile and I had a vague memory of running back when i played basketball in high school. Swim  Bike   Run. sure lets give this a try. my first triathlon was the Frank Dunn, 1.5 swim, 62k bike and 13k run. I signed up for a stroke improvement class at the ywca  and I was on my way , I started running in June, my first run was 20 minutes and i needed to walk any and all hills I encountered. I was on my bike about 5 times before the race. It was an old Canadian Tire 1987 model and my bike rides peaked out at about 18k. I did go 35k one time.
Race day was amazing, swimming in a borrowed overall style wetsuit with rips in the knees, I felt at home in the water and the people swimming on me didn't scare me. Onto the bike, wearing a fanny pack holding my peanut butter and honey sandwich(I had not been exposed to what a gel was yet)I started the painful trek on my bike, which at the last minute, I had a brain wave to use my husband's because it was nicer than mine, needless  to say he is 6' 1", I am 5' 6" 3/4. I was crazy stretched so far forward through the toughest bike ride of my life, thus far, yikes, hurts to think of it. Well, a long time later, came the run and the finish line. My best friend was last, I was second last, but it was one of the best days of my life, and I was hooked on this triathlon thing. I was still very clued out about training and also how much i was willing to give to the sport, I was , and am just so happy to be able to show up.
Time to shake this little world of mine up and see what i have under the hood. This camp seriously got my juices flowing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I feel like Carrie my coach was looking at me like I am raw meat.  I am very excited to see what I am made of. Making something for myself a priority is a very odd thing for me to be doing and feels a little wrong, but I know it is so right, and I am going with it. Making this camp happen was the best thing ever. I learned so much from the coaching, but also a lot from the other people at camp. My coach Carrie is a cool litttle spitfire who seems to get me and is ready to push me.  So, ya, back to the headline of this blog, be careful what you wish for..... I told her that i felt like i wanted to kick it up a notch, well , wouldn't you know it, I came home . checked my workout weeks and I am up 3-4 hours fro before the camp----hahaa!! either I was totally dogging it before, or she is going to see what i am made of. Either way, it is a good time to kick it up a notch to try and offset the christmas spread that generally visits my ass this time of year!!!
Nothing in this post talked about my incredible hosts with the most where I stayed during the camp, the meal cooked by a man that made me cry or the crazy drive with the very enjoyable Jenn. You can cover a lot of discussion on a 101/2 hour car ride, and we sure did BABY!!!!! All in all two thunmbs way up!!!! loved it.

You and Carrie are well-matched -- two l'il spitfires!! LOL!!

It was so awesome meeting you -- next time I see you, we need to plunk ourselves down and chat! :) :)

I can't wait to see how much you start shredding the swim -- you are smokin' already! :) :)

It was great to meet you on the weekend. You should know that all coaches like to break their athletes right off. That's how they find out where the current limits are. Then they start to improve you.

You will do super!
